Family Lockdown support and ideas

Useful websites, resources and ideas to help you keep your family happy and healthy during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Although our groups and activities are cancelled for now, we want to make sure you have access to the most up-to-date information to care for your family.  We also want to give you plenty of fun things to do at home with your little ones. 

We'll add new ideas and resources to this page so it's worth checking back. You can also visit thSSBC Facebook page - we're sharing new and exciting things to do with your family, every single day! You'll find ideas for recipes, crafts, games, and songs.

Support and guidance for families

✅ Advice for pregnant women and their families (The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists).

✅ Guidance on caring for your baby at this time (The Lullaby Trust). Advice covers self-isolating with your baby, breastfeeding, bedsharing, skin-to-skin contact, and lots more. Breastfeeding support is also available via  the National Breastfeeding Helpline: 0300 100 0212 (lines are open 9.30am-9.30pm, 7 days a week).

✅ Support and advice for families living in Nottingham City  is available from Nottingham City Council.  Find out what types of help they offer.

 UK Government advice about self-isolation is available in lots of different languages.

✅ Tips for keeping calm and managing stress (World Health Organisation)

✅ Wondering about how to talk to your child about Coronavirus? MindHearts have created a free activity book. It's available in different languages too.  Blackpool  Better Start has produced a video with tips for speaking about the virus to very young children.

🌟 Check out the National Literacy Trust's Family Zone - it's full of reading resources and activities, including storytime videos, activity sheets and family draw-along sessions.

🌟 Explore your senses with Ignite Futures's Tots Time Science reading & activity book! Download it for free from their website- you can print it, or use it on a tablet or phone.

🌟 Say 'hi 'to the animals at San Diego Zoo - watch them on the Zoo's live webcams as they eat, sleep and play.

🌟 Peek into some birds' nests. With the Wildlife Trust webcams you can watch owls, falcons, puffins and other birds in their natural habitat.

🌟 Join body coach Joe Wicks for a PE class in your living room.

🌟 Discover Storytime Online - watch famous authors read your favourite stories.

🌟 BBC Bitesize has lots of educational activities and games for children aged 3-11. There are also arts and craft ideas to enjoy as a family.

🌟 Listen to a new book or song together. Audible has loads of free audio stories and sing-along songs for little ones - all downloadable from their website or app.

🌟 If you're a member of Nottingham City Libraries, you can download free audio books, ebooks, and emagazines. If you're not a member yet, you'll need to join the library online first.

🌟 Sign up for NonSuch Studio's Creative Quarantine - you'll receieve an email every day with a new idea for a creative activity.

🌟 Dance, music, reading, crafts, gardening - ChalleNGe Nottingham has loads of ideas for things to enjoy as a family.

🌟 Schedule a virtual storytime with a friend or family member using Facetime, Skype, Zoom or a WhatsApp video call. It's a great way to stay connected and share a story together.
