My family live abroad so I didn’t have the usual support in place. Having a Family Mentor meant I had someone to support me through pregnancy and beyond and give me modern parenting advice. In my culture, we have very traditional ways of parenting. Having a Mentor gave me the opportunity to explore different parenting techniques and find my own style.

There are lots of groups running throughout the week so there’s always something to go and do with your child. They have lots of different activities to keep the children busy which is good because my son is very active. His favourite groups are Cook & Play, Messy Makers & Jiggle & Wiggle.

The sessions are great for learning and development. They really helped Jamie build up his vocabulary and his motor skills and gave me lots of ideas for activities I could do at home with him.

The Chatterpillars session at Stonebridge City Farm was brilliant. We really enjoyed it as we could join in with the session and spend time at the farm with all the animals. It was a proper day out.

I also took part in a Fire Safety session, which was very informative. Like all mums, I worry about keeping my child safe. I benefitted a lot from attending and it help put my mind at ease about how I can try to prevent injuries and keep my family safe.
Going to groups helped me build relationships and make friends with other parents in the community.

My Family Mentor has been amazing! We have such a good relationship. It’s made such a difference knowing that I have someone that I can turn to. I can pick what I want to talk about during visits and if I need to, I can text my Mentor with any concerns or questions and I know she will get back to me and try to help in any way she can.

It’s a really great service and offers so many benefits to parents to support them do their best for their children. I think the service can really help all parents, not just first-time mums & dads.
